The Independent Woman’s Football league began in 2000 as a non-profit organization it branched of from the National’s Women’s Football League (NWFL) which was first established in 1974. The IWFL currently consists of 55 teams. The organizations mission is to “Enable women to play tackle football by supporting the member owners of the IWFL with a stable organization that can draw on and combine resources of the IWFL to promote women athletes who play football.” This organization has established a website were you can find all the information of the teams, buy tickets for the games and IWFL gear. Tryouts are open to females who are at least 18 years old and want to go out into the field and play football. Each team conducts their own tryouts, and do not require experience. Many people believe women’s football league is something new however, that is not the case this organization has been around for a couple of years already. I highly recommend attending one of IWFL games. I recently attended one and it was a great experience. With this organization you can definitely witness how woman are constantly demonstrating that female and male are equal and just as a male can play football so can a female.
